Based on the investigation of the specialty setting of higher education institutions in China，the paper believes that there is still room for adjustment of the specialty structure of colleges and universities under the background of popularization，which is mainly reflected in the adaptation of college specialty adjustment and market adjustment，the conflict between college specialty adjustment and government decentralization，and the optimization of college discipline construction and specialty retention.
