The "four histories" is based on our country's modern historical reform and the historical documents recorded，combined with the ideological and political education in colleges and universities，can help to grasp the core gist of the education，can further solid the students' ideal and belief，conducive to the realization of the revolutionary spirit inheritance. During the actual ideological and political education，in order to better play the role of "four histories"，we need to master effective teaching methods，so as to realize the combination of ideological and political education and "four histories". Based on this，this paper starts with the research and analysis of the "four histories"，discusses the connection between the "four histories" and the ideological and political education in colleges and universities，analyzes the importance of the "four histories" in the ideological and political education in colleges and universities，and focuses on the path to innovate the ideological and political education in colleges and universities based on the "four histories".
